LANDRE LANE KITCHEN REMODEL

I absolutely cannot wait to share this post with you all today. As I said before, this project is one of my favorites to date and I think when you see the transformation you’ll see why. This client contacted me back in May about doing a kitchen remodel and after meeting with them I knew it was going to be an amazing project. They had a list of things that they really needed to be incorporated in the kitchen but other than that they were SO trusting and really let me be creative in my design process and it payed off. Just a quick plug for trusting the designer you hire because when that happens amazing things come of it :) I am going to share the whole process with you today so you can get a little glimpse into the work that goes into a major renovation like this one.

Here is the before:

When I saw the original floor plan I knew I wanted to expand the kitchen the whole length of the space. The homeowner wasn’t stuck on having a table in the kitchen which really gave us so much more space to work with. The homeowner also really wanted a pantry which was currently nonexistent in the space. After looking through inspiration pictures, compiling all of the needs and wants of the client, and thinking through a lot of space planning options I presented the homeowners with two options.

This first option I bumped forward an existing wall to be able to create a pantry next to the refrigerator. The back wall featured the range and range hood with plenty of cabinetry while the far right wall stayed untouched. On the wall opposite the range, I created a beverage station featuring a wine fridge, small bar sink and more cabinetry. As far as materials go, I proposed wood floors, a warm gray painted cabinet around the perimeter with a stained wood island, and a white quartz countertop.

For the second option, I again created a large island centered in the room with plenty of space for the family to eat and entertain guests. However, for this option I wrapped the cabinetry around the entire kitchen in a U-shape, taking the windows on the far right wall up a few feet from their original placement to allow more counter space. I also proposed to create a pantry with pocket door where the “drop zone” was in the original plan. This plan also features two full sized sinks which I think every kitchen should have if you can! For materials, I once again suggested wood flooring and mixed metals, but decided to propose stained wood cabinets on all base cabinets and island, and paint only the upper cabinets.

Are you starting to see what a big process this is? Haha. After a lot of deliberation, we decided to go with the layout of concept 2 and the material selections of concept 1. As we worked with our contractor and cabinet maker we made some adjustments here and there to create the most functional space we could. Once we decided on a plan it was time to finalize all appliances, materials, and fixtures. We worked with a local cabinetry company to order all of our cabinets, countertops, and flooring which made the process so clean and simple. Once the “big” things were decided on we got to work choosing faucets, lighting, barstools, backsplash, and a fun vintage rug (PSA: every kitchen needs a vintage rug). I couldn’t be happier with the results. It is so satisfying to see ideas and rough drawings come to life and be even more stunning than you imagined.

I cannot so enough how much I love a panel ready fridge/freezer. It makes a world of a difference in creating a clean seamless design.

There’s the new pantry tucked right behind that little pocket door. We decided to shorten up the pantry and add in a “landing zone” for papers, keys, etc., and then added floating shelves above to finish out this wall.

A pretty decent transformation, right? Thanks for reading, I promise every post won’t be the length of a novel!
