WASHINGTON STREET REMODEL

This may be one of my favorite and most dramatic before & afters yet… I am just so excited to share it with you all! A little back story before we get to the pictures: This client came to me December 2019 right after purchasing their “new-old” home. My client was pregnant with her fourth and I was pregnant with our first as we sat over coffee and talked through everything they dreamed their new home would hold for their family. After walking through their home I got to work coming up with several different floor plan options and material selections As always, we tweaked several things from my original plan…design is an ever evolving process.

My client had shared with me that they enjoyed French design, so I ran with a traditional French palette with creamy trim, grays, blues, and hints of copper in the range hood and island hardware. We used a wide plank light oak flooring and I love the laid back French vibe it adds to the house. We also raised the ceiling up to create more height and took the cabinets all the way to the new 10 foot ceiling…storage for days! We kept the original tile in the entry and gave the grand staircase a little face lift. We removed a closet and a funky hallway to open up everything to the new kitchen, as well as opened up the wall between the dining room and original kitchen.

One reason I love renovations, and especially renovations in old homes, is because it’s like one giant puzzle. We had a few structural challenges to figure out knowing we wanted to open up most of the walls. Enter in the columns integrated into the island. We wanted a large island but the area we wanted to place it needed structural support on one side, so we decided to run a post and beam system and duplicate the post on the other end of the island to create symmetry and frame out the custom range hood on the back wall. I just LOVE how this turned out. Anyways, enough with all the technical talk, I know all you really want to see are the pictures;) I will share some overall shots of the before and after so you get a feel for the space planning, then some detail shots of all the great details. I appreciate each and every one of you who read and follow along, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
